Congratulations to our new Club President, Barry Bryan who received his chain of office from the retiring President, Maureen Walsh, at the Club AGM this week. Maureen said, “The Club has benefitted from Barry’s committee involvement with Dance Section, Bar and General Committee over many years and was instrumental in the organisation of the recent club open day”. He is a very worthy recipient and we all wish him well in his year of office.

Brookdale Club News

At the Club’s 74th AGM this week, retiring President, Maureen Walsh, presented a cheque for £8056 to her nominated charity, Weekend Centre for Dementia Care, based in Offerton.

The center is open every weekend and bank holiday (except Christmas Day) and provides care for up to 40 clients each day. Rebecca Cabrajas gratefully accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity thanking the President and Club for raising this significant amount which will go towards fitting out their new building and help continue this important work.

Each year the Club President nominates a charity for their year of office. Many activities took place across the Club and its many sections to raise these monies including a Charity Fair and Luncheon, Afternoon Concert by the choir section, Bridge Drive, Afternoon Tea, Bowling Day, Coffee Mornings as well as many others.

When asked why she chose this charity, Maureen replied: “Dementia is touching so many people’s lives and leading to many pressures on families, particularly at weekends. The centre is the only place in the Stockport area to offer this service, over the weekend, is a very worthy cause and I am absolutely delighted with the amount raised.

The Brookdale Club is a members social Club with many different activities, from Bowling and Bridge to Theatre and Travel. It is proud of its history and its aims – A club for Members run by the Members.

People often drive past and wonder what goes on at “The Brookdale”. It is a club made up of many sections (see panel on right) with each section having its own committee which determines the activities of that section.  There are also a number of club wide functions from a New Year Ball to a Charity Day.

The Club is situated in the South Stockport area on Bridge Lane, Bramhall SK7 3AB (Google Map). For details of the various sections, please select from the full list on the right or scroll down to see a short description of each section.
