Are you a wannabee actor?

Brookdale Theatre is always on the lookout for talented actors and actresses to take part in the 5 productions we hold each year with auditions normally held in May/June.

We aim to have a varied programme throughout our season (October- May) and usually this involves one musical, one Youth Theatre production and either 3 plays or a pantomime and 2 plays.

Play rehearsals are usually Tuesday and Thursday evenings plus Sunday mornings (or afternoons) for approximately 6 weeks before the first night.

As you would expect, musicals need longer rehearsal time – approx 3 months – chorus rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday evenings plus Mondays for principals and Sunday afternoons for the last 6 weeks of a production.

Obviously extra rehearsals for plays and shows are sometime necessary.

We also welcome anyone who would like to be involved as a Director, Musical Director or choreographer.

How about building or painting sets?

Our very own Theatre Workshop design and build the sets for our 5 productions – currently daytime on Monday and Thursday.

Scenic Artists (sometimes in co-ordination with Brookdale Art Section) paint some wonderful backdrops whether an English country garden or a New York skyline is required.

Would you like to be involved with costumes or props for the stage?

…Or maybe lights, sound and effects or Stage Management?  A great way to get involved if you’d rather not tread the boards

Would you like to be involved?

We’re always happy to have new volunteers for House Managers, or helping with selling tickets, interval coffees, sweets and ice creams.

Is there a social side to Brookdale Theatre?

There certainly is.

Social events are held throughout the year and these vary considerably – past events have included hoedowns, a Caribbean evening and the glamorous Brookdale Amateur Theatre Award (otherwise known as the BATAs) – Brookdale’s own version of the BAFTAs!

Coffee mornings are held on the first Saturday of each month at 10.30am (except August) – just turn up and we will make you welcome.
