Fun with Shakespeare

Group 2 Age 11-14 (years 7-9)

Additional Workshops

We have hosted three professional workshops; current West End performers have provided workshops on Les Misérables, Blood Brothers and most recently We Will Rock You.

In 2015 we were very proud to enter a youth play directed by one of our older members in the GMDF one act play festival. It was very well received. Over the past six years we have entered 9 plays in the GMDF One Act Play Festival and have been successful winning ‘Best Actor’  and ‘Best Play’ 3 times.

We have also participated in the Manchester International Festival.

Theatre visits are an important part of the programme and have included Pendleton College, the Opera House, the Royal Northern, the Royal Exchange, the Palace Theatre, the Lowry, Buxton Opera House and the Apollo Theatre in London.

More recently we have attended;

‘Little Shop of Horrors’ at The Royal Exchange

‘Guy and Dolls’ at Pendleton College

‘Mamma Mia’ at the Palace in Manchester

‘Two’ at the Royal Exchange

‘Legally Blonde’ at the Opera House Manchester

We also take groups to preview the adult Brookdale Productions which have included’ Voyage Around my Father’, ‘The Constant Wife’, ’Hayfever’, ‘The Darling Buds of May’, ’Barnum’, ‘ Hansel and Gretel’, ‘The Thirty Nine Steps’ and ‘Acorn Antiques and 42nd Street and Present Laughter.

All of these plays have included members of BYT as there are opportunities for young people to audition for parts in all Brookdale productions throughout the season.

Several members of BYT had roles recently in ‘Present Laughter’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’. Many members were involved in last season’s Pantomime Robin Hood and Maid Marion.

Auditions for each season take place in May and our members are always encouraged to get involved both onstage and backstage- helping with lights, sound, stage management and front of house duties.
